Jacquelyn Ross Brown was born and raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was nurtured in a loving Christian home with a deep love of family, a strong belief in education, and a dedication to community service coupled with the commitment and responsibility of helping others. This is the foundation which has, in turn, shaped her life.

Relocating to Buffalo in 1969 she began a career as a mental health professional where she remained for 21 years before joining the Buffalo Public School District in 1990 retiring in 2013.

A viable volunteer in the community she is a member of the Buffalo Chapter of the Links, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Maumbasuma-Sisters Reading Book Club, Ellicott Redevelopment Foundation Board, and Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society. She is an alumnus of Leadership Buffalo and the Buffalo Educational Leadership Program.

Before retiring from the school district, Jacquelyn answered the call to go forth and preach God’s word. She preached her initial sermon and was licensed January 31, 2010, and ordained (National Baptist) September 19, 2010. Continuing in God’s purpose, she was called as the Assistant Pastor of New Covenant United Church of Christ February 21, 2010, and as Senior Pastor November 15, 2010. She was ordained by the Ministry Executive Council of the UCC May 5, 2018. Jacquelyn credits her husband, the late Reverend Will J. Brown, with providing staunch mentoring as she began her ministerial vocation.

As a certified counselor and clergy, Pastor “Jackie” is always willing to listen and make herself available to those in need. She has been a speaker at numerous churches throughout Buffalo and Niagara Falls, the state of Ark. and Michigan. Multi talented, She has written and directed church plays; conducted Rite of Passage programs for churches as well Jack and Jill of America and founded two Christian Book Clubs.

Pastor “Jackie” is a recipient of numerous awards, she is most proud of the Black Achievers Award for Education; Bonding Women of Faith; Christian Sisterhood and Extraordinary African American Women, Mary B. Talbert, The CRCDS Black Student Union Appreciation, and the Victorian Angel Award. She also received the Gene and Jean Bartlett Prize for Preaching from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.

The widow of the late Reverend Will J. Brown, Pastor “Jackie” is the mother of two sons: Kevin Byron Brown (Beatrice) of Atlanta, GA and Jason Ross Brown (Elena) of San Francisco, CA. and a Godson, Scott Jonathan Bell. She is the very proud grandmother of Raven Moon Brown, Aminah Mulai Brown, Willow Roxie Brown, and Christian Noah Ross Brown.

Pastor “Jackie” is a dynamic teacher and preacher who has influenced and touched many lives. The Spirit of the Lord is evident in all aspects of her life and work, and for this she is truly set apart.
