Servant Leadership

Pastor Jackie has studied the Servant Leadership practices as established by Robert K.  Greenleaf’s organization, The Center for Servant Leadership. Greenleaf theorizes that “A servant-leader focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong.”

In that vein, New Covenant has convened biennial Servant Leadership Retreats that involves the congregational leaders as well as fellow congregants. Planning retreats is coordinated and facilitated by leaders and non-leaders; workshops are convened by members and non-members.  The Leadership of New Covenant takes seriously the needs of others first and actively assists in congregational spiritual development.

Servant Leadership “begins with the innate feeling that one’s genuine desire is to serve” by putting  into practice the principles of Servant Leadership:  Listening, Empathy, Healing, Awareness, Persuasion, Conceptualization, Foresight, Stewardship, Commitment to the Growth of People, and Building Community.
